As we approach Christmas, I’m realising how much I’m missing the routine I was in of sitting down and writing about my day and my thoughts.
Doing this allowed me to resolve conflicts and issues while being able to prioritise. Reflection has to be pivotal to any leaders role. Reflection for me allows me to mentally sift through things that happen throughout the week, to look at things with a better perspective and to think about how things could have been improved.
Reflection is central to what we do as a school. Our development plan is underpinned by continual reflection to inform our SEF. Therefore, as a leader, being able to do this in a more informal but regular way truly helps me to be better and more proficient in my role.
This empty page in front of me helps me, you could call it my ‘therapy’, it grounds me and helps me to focus on what is really important.
The thought of getting back into this actually fills me with excitement. I’m looking forward to many more conversations with everyone about balancing family life and work, leadership and education.
I’m looking forward to it!
