Keeping things in perspective……

We had a governor-parent forum last week.

I think it confirmed to me that not everyone is against me……

There are so many different perspectives and you have to realise that you won’t ever make everyone happy.  All you can do, is always put the children first and consider the options.  If the things you do are good and right, then you know you are on the right path.  It is difficult sometimes knowing whether you are always making the right decisions.  That is why it is always so important to talk through the decisions with as many people as possible to make sure that you have all the different view points and think about things from as many angles as you can.

Not everyone will be happy and if you try to please everyone, you will fail and will stand for nothing.

It can be very difficult when the bulk of what you hear are the negatives and the complaints.  But that is what comes with the territory – being the head teacher means that you will be the one who people come to when things go wrong, children, staff, parents and members of the community.

Being able to hear some positives confirmed that I was at least ‘part-way’ on the right track!  I know I have a long way to go, but hearing that there are some parents who are very happy assures me that I must be doing some things right!

I think being able to put things into perspective as a head, has a lot to do with how well you will be able to deal with the stress of day to day things.

You just have to keep on, keeping on!
