Setting Goals and Achieving Them!

“You have to set goals that are almost out of reach. If you set a goal that is attainable without much work or thought, you are stuck with something below your true talent and potential.”

~Steve Garvey~

The countdown is over and the launch of our ‘Be the Best You Can Be’ has officially begun!  Today Gail Emms finally came into school.  The children were so very excited!

Very often we have special visitors into school, some are terrific with large audiences, while others struggle to engage the children.  Gail, however, was absolutely brilliant.  The children laughed, joined in and hung on every word she told them.

She explained that when she first started playing Badminton, she wasn’t very good.  In fact, she barely hit the shuttle cock.  She demonstrated trying to hit the shuttle cock and missing quite a few times which had the children in fits of giggles.  But, the message came through loud and clear…..she didn’t give up and eventually she did hit it.  Her goal was to beat her mum at Badminton, who is an excellent sportswoman as well.  She highlighted the fact, that she continued to lose to her mum, 11-nil but continued to play with her, until eventually one day she did beat her and then she had to set herself another goal.  It is this journey that allowed her to reach the pinnacle – to be the very best Badminton player in the world.  It is all about mindset, about the goals we set ourselves and how determined we are at actually achieving them.

It was a brilliant day and not only the children, but the staff took so much from what Gail Emms taught us.

I haven’t been as excited about a program we have begun in school as this one.  I cannot wait to see the impact it has on our students, staff and entire community

Thank you Gail Emms and Thank You 21st Century Legacy for an amazing start to our wonderful new program.
